Through Improv's instrumental tuition you will learn not only to read music and to play the pieces you know and love, but also to improvise!
In fact, we believe that even if you have already gone through the classical grades, there is probably still a lot for you to learn about piano or guitar playing. We would love to bring you to the point where you can truly express yourself through your instrument, truly enjoy playing, even start writing your own music! Costs and Conditions

Our service is centred around you. The guitar or piano lessons take place in your own home, on your own instrument, covering Limerick ,Clare and Tipperary. We do our utmost to find a day, time and program that works for your lifestyle. The costs are €35 for an hour long lesson, or €25 for a 40 minute lesson, and there is no long term buy-in necessary. In fact, new students start off paying per lesson until both student and teacher are happy with the system. After that, we ask you to pay for 4 lessons in advance (purely to help us with reliable cash flow), and the dates are booked in with an agreement that, if necessary and if possible, they can be rearranged within the same week.

The Program

As already stated, the program of guitar or piano tuition will vary with each student - everyone has a different taste in music, and our aim is to get you playing the kind of music you love, in fact where possible, the actual songs and artists you enjoy listening to! Having said that, pieces will of course be chosen with specific learning objectives in mind - particular rhythms, chords, techniques that you have reached the point where you need to learn. Sometimes songs will be brought right through to completion for the sake of building confidence and motivation. Other pieces will only be studied until the techniques have been taken on board. The system is holistic, tying in relevant music theory and relevant practical exercises with specific pieces, indeed building improvisational skills around those pieces and exercises where practical.

We want you to fall in love with music and with playing your instrument, whether piano or guitar. In fact, as much as this is our living, we would love to get you to the point where you take ownership of your own learning and become so enthused and excited by playing and practicing that you become self-teaching!

The Tutor

Improv's owner and music tutor is Martin Legge, a skilled and experienced musician whose background includes working as a studio producer, musical director, composer and session musician. His passion for musicianship is expressed mostly through his work in the church, where he works with a large and diverse group of musicians.
As well as being a trained educator, he has a lot of experience working with young people and has been teaching piano and guitar for over 15 years. He is creative and engaging in his teaching style, and is always looking for new ways to motivate and inspire his students. He is based in Limerick city, but is willing to travel to surrounding parts of Clare and Tipperary.

English as a Foreign Language

As well as piano and guitar tuition, we take on students interested in learning English as a foreign language (TEFL/ESL). Based on qualifications from Atlantic College Galway and experience from his role teaching in the University of Limerick Language Centre, Martin takes private students for one-on-one improvement of their English language skills at a rate of €25 per hour

Musical Services

Improv offers various musical services including composition, recording, arranging and editing of songs. Our latest, exciting offering is our unique song writing service, where we work with you to write a completely original love song or similar.

Audiovisual Services
